Only people who need to access your information will be able to do so. Other than in the course of providing medical services or as otherwise described in this policy, we will not share personal information with any third party without your consent.
We will not share your personal information with anyone outside Australia unless you have consented or we are required or authorised by law to do so.
We will not use your personal information for marketing any goods or services directly to you without your express consent. If you do consent, you may opt out of direct marketing at any time by notifying us in writing.
Appointment reminders, recalls and online services
We use secure systems to send appointment confirmations, reminders and recall notices by SMS, and to provide online booking, repeat script and medical certificate requests, and digital patient forms. These providers handle your information only to deliver these services to our practice. You can tell us at any time if you do not want to receive SMS reminders.
Students and training
RTHC is a teaching practice. Supervised health students may be involved in your care. We will always ask for your permission before a student is present during your consultation, and you may decline without affecting your care.
Use of information for quality improvement and research
We may use your information internally to improve the quality of the services we offer to patients, through research and analysis of patient data. We may provide de-identified data to other organisations to improve population health outcomes. Patients cannot be identified from this data, and the information is stored securely. You can let us know if you do not want your de-identified information included.
How we store and protect your information
Your personal information is stored at our practice in electronic records. We protect it with secure, password-protected systems, access restricted to staff who need it, staff confidentiality agreements, and secure storage of any paper documents.
We keep medical records for at least seven years from the date of last contact for adults, and for children until they turn at least 25. After this, records are securely destroyed or permanently de-identified.
